Don’t let Your Lighter Devastate your Cigars

One thing you may find out about smoking cigars, is that a good cigar, ($3-$20 bucks per stick) can be ruined by lighting them with either a match or a “regular” lighter (one that takes lighter liquid). It is best to use good vector lighters, of the “torch” type. You can either purchase one at a store or your local cigar shop typically carries a variety of good lighters. And let us face it, they are the experts, and even though these lighters are not cheap, many of them come with warranties and are worth it. The reason why the cigar can be ruined is that the taste, of the lighter fluid, can be imparted to the cigar and you will definitely taste it while smoking your favorite cigar. If you are paying for a great premium cigar, you don’t want the taste ruined. This is pretty much the only way that a cigars flavor can be altered other than drying out, or improper storage. Some people will actually infuse their cigars with flavoring to make the tobacco taste sweet. I prefer the natural flavor of a full bodied cigar. One that people always says has such a strong aroma, that I have to smoke it outside, or I will upset everyone who is around me at the time. A torch lighter leaves no taste, makes a hot flame that you want to get the cigar lit, and won’t leave any extra taste to your cigars. I learned this lesson the hard way. The first cigar I smoked, I lit with a Bic lighter and I almost did not smoke another cigar. But, I talked with a buddy who had a great torch lighter and found that he never came across that problem. So, I went to my local cigar shop and picked up a torch and a couple of my favorite cigars and have been puffing away ever since.
